I had the problem in the beginning as well. What causes this is flattening the fibers of the paper any wood pencil will do this. I use mechanical pencil before the paper gets pushed down and shiny the lead will brake. It take a long time to get the darks but I found out it’s the only way to get a good dark without shine.
